Required Materials Loan Policy

Definition: Required Materials Loan is the process by which specific required material for a course is made available to a COOLSchool student's Adult Contact.

Purpose: To adhere to the Oregon Administrative Rule that states that all Oregon public school children shall be provided required materials free of charge.
OAR 581-022-1640
Stat. Auth.: ORS 326.051

Acceptance: Registration of a student in a COOLSchool course assumes acceptance of this Required Materials Loan Policy.

Eligible Borrowers: Required Materials Loan is available only to Adult Contacts who have Oregon students currently enrolled in a COOLSchool course that requires material other than those available within the course.

Loan Period: Materials borrowed through the Required Materials Loan are due within 10 days of the student receiving a final grade for the course via e-mail from their instructor or the COOLSchool registrar. Failure to return the materials within the allotted time line may result in being charged for replacing the loaned material.

Accountability: The registered student's Adult Contact is held accountable for the continued monitoring of the condition of the loaned materials and the proper return of the loaned materials in the time frame as outlined above. Materials must be returned in their original condition. Note: Students shall NOT write directly into workbooks, but should copy their work onto a separate piece of paper.

Delivery Practice: The COOLSchool registrar will send the required materials within a week of the student's course start date via the United States Postal Service, United Parcel Service or the Linn Benton Lincoln Educational Service District (LBL ESD) Courier Service (if the Adult Contact is within the LBL ESD region).

Return Practice: The return of the materials, including the cost of their return, is the responsibility of the Adult Contact (or School District if employer of the Adult Contact). If the Adult Contact is in the LBL ESD region, it is highly recommended that they use the LBL ESD Courier Service. Materials should be returned to:

COOLSchool
905 4th Ave. SE
Albany, OR 97321-3199

Financial Responsibility: Any financial charges are the responsibility of the Adult Contact. If the Adult Contact is employed by a school district, the school district must claim financial responsibility. In most cases, failure to return the material according to the time line outlined in the "Loan Period" will require compensation at the replacement cost of material.

Questions: Direct any Required Materials Loan questions to the COOLSchool registrar, registar@coolschool.k12.or.us.
