COOLSchool World Wide Web Use Agreement
COOLSchool is an online school resource that connects to the World Wide Web (WWW). COOLSchool is available to any student enrolled at a middle school or high school certified by the State of Oregon. It is also available to home school students and students from other states and countries.
Access to the WWW enables students to explore thousands of libraries, databases and bulletin boards all over the world. Some materials in these sources may be illegal, defamatory, inaccurate, or offensive to some. We believe the benefits of the WWW exceed any disadvantages, but parents and guardians of minors are ultimately responsible for setting and conveying the standards their children should follow when using the WWW.
While we believe that student to student conversation and assistance is an important way to increase your learning, when you complete and submit assignments through COOLSchool, you are expected to do your own work just as you are at any public school. You will be held accountable for your academic honesty; acts of dishonesty may cause your grade to be reduced. Repeated acts of dishonesty may result in further disciplinary action to be determined jointly by your school and the administration at COOLSchool.
COOLSchool WWW Guidelines
- Students are responsible for good behavior on school computer networks, just as they are in a classroom. The COOLSchool network is provided for students to take courses that are often not available locally. Network access is allowed to those students who agree to act responsibly. Access is a privilege, not a right.
- Individual users of COOLSchool's computer networks are responsible for their behavior and communications over those networks.
- Network storage areas may be treated like school lockers. Administrators or their designees may review files and communications to maintain system integrity and ensure that users are using the system responsibly. There is no expectation of privacy in electronic files provided by COOLSchool.
- In school, teachers can guide students toward appropriate materials. Outside of school, families are responsible for such guidance.
- Students are expected to attend COOLSchool during designated periods, i.e., when COOLSchool is scheduled. Exceptions to this rule can be made only with written approval of school administration and COOLSchool teacher.
- Participating students must locate appropriate online courses. Students may request help from COOLSchool staff to find courses, but the final responsibility for identifying suitable courses rests with the students.
- Participating students must take full responsibility for maintaining adequate progress. Students are expected to complete coursework by the end of the term for which they are registered or within 10 months from their start date.
- Students who wish to participate in COOLSchool must complete the online registration form.
- Students using COOLSchool's network are not permitted to do any of the following:
- Access offensive messages or pictures
- Use obscene or defamatory language
- Harass, insult, defame, or attack others
- Damage computers, or alter computer systems or networks
- Violate copyright laws
- Use another student's user name or password
- Trespass in another student's folders or files
- Employ the network for commercial purposes
COOLSchool reserves the right to remove a user's account if it is determined that the user is engaged in unauthorized activity or is violating these guidelines.
COOLSchool may revise these Guidelines at any time by updating this posting. You should visit this Web page from time to time to review the then-current Guidelines because they are binding on you.
