The following policy was created to protect our students and
teachers. Access to COOLSchool is a privilege - not a right.
Access entails responsibility. Students are responsible for
good behavior on school-related networks, just as they are
in a classroom or hallway. It is presumed that users will comply
with their local district and COOLSchool standards, and that
users will honor their agreements.
The requirements of this policy are non-negotiable, and
violation of this policy may result in removal of the user's
account.
General Provisions
Access to the World Wide Web (WWW) enables students to explore
thousands of libraries, databases, and bulletin boards throughout
the world. Families should be advised that some material accessible
through the WWW may contain items that are illegal, defamatory,
inaccurate, or potentially offensive to some people. While
our intent is to further educational goals and objectives,
students may find access to other materials as well.
Ultimately, parents and guardians of minors are responsible
for setting and conveying the standards that their children
should follow when using media information courses.
I. What This Policy Covers
- This privacy policy applies to the COOLSchool content
owned and/or managed by COOLSchool and/or the Oregon Public
Education Network (OPEN) at the following URLs:

- This privacy policy covers COOLSchool's treatment of
personally identifiable information that COOLSchool collects
when you are on the COOLSchool site and when you use COOLSchool's
services. This policy also covers COOLSchool's treatment
of any personally identifiable information that COOLSchool's
business partners share with COOLSchool or that COOLSchool
may collect on a partner's site.
- This policy does not apply to the practices of organizations
that OPEN does not own or control, or to people that OPEN
or COOLSchool do not employ or manage.
II. Information Collection and Use
- When you register, we ask for your name, e-mail address,
and other profile information, such as credit card and
billing information. We may also request additional profile
information for optional online surveys and identification
verification.
- COOLSchool uses the information you provide for four
general purposes: to contact you, to respond to your correspondence,
to improve the operations of COOLSchool, and to maintain
education records as required by Oregon law.
- In the course of using our site, we log certain information
including your IP address, the browser you are using, and
the previous URL you were visiting.
- If you send us correspondence, or if third parties send
us correspondence about your activities on the site, we
may store such information so that we can better serve
you.
- We may use profile information to improve our marketing
and promotional efforts, review site usage, and to improve
our site's content, offerings, and layout.
- We may use profile information for market research purposes
and to generate aggregate reports on student interests
and behavior. We will not identify any individuals.
- With your prior approval, we may use information we collect
to occasionally inform you of new offerings from COOLSchool
we think you will find useful. If you would prefer not
to receive such notices, please contact us at: admin@coolschool.k12.or.us.
- We may disclose user information in special cases when
we have reason to believe it is necessary to identify,
contact, or bring legal action against someone who may
be causing injury to or interfering with - either intentionally
or unintentionally - COOLSchool's rights or property, other
COOLSchool users, or anyone else who could be harmed by
such activities. We may also disclose user information
when we have a good faith belief that the law requires
we do so.
- We collect e-mail addresses here
 only for the purpose of assigning usernames and passwords for the review of COOLSchool's protected content. COOLSchool does not share this information with anyone, and will archive those e-mail addresses every three months. Once the data is archived the e-mail addresses will be deleted off of our production server.
III. Cookies
- We may set and access cookies on your computer. We use
cookies for purposes including but not limited to: providing
customized content, keeping track of your preferences,
estimating total COOLSchool site audience size and traffic,
and conducting research to improve COOLSchool content and
services.
IV. Information Sharing, Disclosure, and Retention
- COOLSchool will not sell or lease any personally identifiable
information to anyone. We may share information with partners
under conditions of confidentiality as described in Section
I above.
- After an account is deleted, the only information that
COOLSchool will retain in storage will be that required
by Oregon law.
- COOLSchool will respond to subpoenas, court orders, or
legal process, to the extent permitted or required by law.
V. Changes to This Privacy Policy
- COOLSchool may amend this policy from time to time. These
changes will be posted online. Please check back occasionally
for updates to our Privacy Policy. You may opt out of this
new information usage by sending an e-mail message to:

VI. Control of Passwords
- You are required to control your password as described
in the COOLSchool User Agreement.
- If you forget your password, please contact us at cs-support@coolschool.k12.or.us.
Your password will be e-mailed to you shortly thereafter.
- COOLSchool will never ask for your password in an unsolicited
phone call or e-mail.
VII. Security
- Transmission of information over the Internet cannot
be guaranteed to be 100% secure, and practices on different
sites do vary, but COOLSchool places a high premium on
security and privacy.
VIII. Other Provisions
- This site may contain links to other Web sites. COOLSchool
is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content
of such sites.
- You have the option to change or modify information previously
provided by revising your member profile online or by contacting
COOLSchool at: admin@coolschool.k12.or.us.
IX. Children's Privacy Policy
- COOLSchool normally accepts service agreements established
by persons over age 18. When someone under the age of 13,
who is not a student at a public or private school accredited
by the State of Oregon, wishes to register with COOLSchool,
we ask that he or she have a parent or guardian establish
a service agreement in order to obtain parental consent.
- Other than required profile information, COOLSchool may
also ask for optional information such as date of birth
and gender.
- Under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, no
Web-site operator can require, as a condition of participation
in an activity, that a child under the age of 13 disclose
more information than is reasonably necessary. COOLSchool
abides by this requirement.
XI. Your Acceptance of These Terms
- By using this Web site, you signify your consent to abide
by COOLSchool's Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please
do not use our Web site or services. Your continued use
of COOLSchool's sites or services following the posting
of changes to these terms means that you accept those changes.

selection and arrangements thereof, are the exclusive property
