What is a credit recovery course?
A credit recovery
(CR) course is a shortened version of a regular education course. It teaches
the same concepts, but it is limited in the amount of practice activities and
student-to-student interaction. The student can take up to 5 months to complete the course (50 hours of teaching and learning).
CR courses are offered in language arts, math, science, social science, health
and study skills, and lead toward a standard high school diploma.
How much does it cost?
$190. See What does a single COOLSchool
course cost for more information.
What is the difference between a regular education course and a credit recovery course?
A credit recovery course is 50 hours of teaching
and learning and the student can take up to 5 months to complete the course.
A regular education course is 90 hours of teaching and learning (modeled on
the traditional high school semester). The student has 10 months to complete
the course from his or her personal start date.
Who should take a credit recovery course?
Credit recovery (CR) courses are open to students who have failed or withdrawn
from courses they need for high school graduation, or students who are on an
IEP or 504 plan.
How much credit
is awarded for a credit recovery course?
Each credit recovery course is worth 0.5 COOLSchool credits. This credit
is based more on proficiency than on seat time (Oregon Administrative
Rule 581-022-1131). See How does COOLSchool
determine credit for more information.
When
are the credit recovery courses offered and when do I register?
See the COOLSchool How to Register page
for this information.
Can partial credit be awarded in a credit recovery course?
No, COOLSchool will not award any partial credit for a credit recovery
course.
Can I
receive a refund if I withdrawal from a credit recovery course?
Please see COOLSchool's
withdrawal policy.
Are time extensions offered in credit recovery courses?
No extensions unless there
are unusual circumstances,
such as:
- illness
- death in family
- family emergency
(Student procrastination is not a valid circumstance.)
The student's adult contact
must request the extension by contacting the COOLSchool registrar at registrar@coolschool.k12.or.us.
COOLSchool may grant or deny the request for an extension.
