Drawing COOLSchool

About Course

This course is designed for high school and middle school students who want to know more about drawing, although it is also open to people who are not in these grades. There are no pre-requisites for the course, but you should only consider taking this course (or any other online course) if you:

  • Can work independently without someone standing over your shoulder and telling you what to do next
  • Have 5 to 8 hours a week to spend on this course
  • Will ask questions whenever you need help
  • Have adequate access to a computer that can run the software required for the course
  • Have a reliable Internet connection and are comfortable using e-mail and the World Wide Web

Why do I want to take this course?
Perhaps you want to explore some new drawing techniques, or would just like to learn how to draw better. If you're looking for credit in a certain subject, you can pick up an extra elective or art credit with this course. We will explore the elements and principles of design through drawing and try to give you a better understanding of two-dimensional composition. You'll even have an opportunity to meet/exceed Art CIM Standards (Oregon based).

Is it hard?
No, no, no. Art is only hard if you make it hard. Unfortunately, some people have had some really bad experiences with art. They probably became discouraged when the teacher graded them based on artistic skills instead of criteria. I grade on criteria, which means I tell you EXACTLY what you'll be graded on, and you decide what kind of grade you want. If you don't like the grade you got on a project, you're more than welcome to resubmit it with corrections.

Do I get high school credit for this?
Yes, 0.5 credits, which is equivalent to one semester of high school credit.

Do I need to be artistic to take this course?
No. As long as you have a desire to draw and a willingness to learn, you'll do great!

What would I learn by taking this course?
