Adobe® Reader® 6.0 is free software that lets you view and print Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files on a variety of hardware and operating system platforms. This new version of the familiar Adobe Acrobat® Reader provides a host of rich features that enable you to:
  • Submit Adobe PDF forms that are created with fillable form fields in such applications as Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional and Adobe Form Designer Play back a variety of embedded multimedia content, such as QuickTime and MP3 files Read and organize high-fidelity eBooks Activate search and accessibility capabilities built into your PDF files
  • Display Adobe Photoshop® Album slide shows and electronic cards and export images for online photo processing (online photo services vary regionally)
This section provides guidance on how to successfully access PDF files.
  1. Are you using Acrobat Reader version 6.0 or higher? If not, download the appropriate Acrobat Reader in order to view the PDF files.

Does your school or district's firewall allow the downloading of PDF files? Your browser options may not allow for the downloading of PDF files due to system security issues. You may need to contact your systems support staff to find out if you can reset your browser options to accommodate PDF files.

Are you trying to open the PDF files in your browser? You may be more successful if you save the files to your hard drive and open them using the Acrobat Reader application.

  2. For viewing Adobe PDF files on the go, Adobe Reader versions are available for Palm OS®, Pocket PC, and Symbian OStm platforms.
To view, download, or print PDF files, you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed as a plug-in on your Web browser software. (A plug-in is a smaller piece of software that adds features to a larger piece of software. In this case, the Acrobat Reader plug-in will enable you to open and view PDF files within your Web browser's window.) You will also need a printer with graphics capabilities.
